If you're wanting to learn how to play football you will be in for a long but very fun ride. There's a lot more to this game than simply learning the rules, and there's a lot more to learning the game than first meets the eye. The best way to learn the ins and outs of the game is by playing it. You can read as many books as you want or watch as many videos as you want, but nothing will replace going out there and playing. No doubt you'll make some mistakes, but in the process you will gain feedback to ensure you progress. If you want to look at it another way, football - like many sports, tends to mirror what life is like. But let's not venture off track, we shall get into the topic of this marvelous sport.

Let's take a look at the offensive line and a few of the more basic facts about it. Given the policies of the game, there will be five places open to the offensive line. The vital function of the players is to safeguard the backfield and take care of the quarterback. When the play requires running, the offensive line needs to stop the defense and make holes where the runner can go through. Of these five appointments, at mid point is the center who throws the football to the quarterback. Adjacent to the center are the two guard positions on either side. The two guards are protected by a tackle at their sides. To initiate each play, the rules say that seven players will be aligned at the scrimmage line for the defense. Besides that, the wide receivers, tight ends and running backs are not held according to number. It hinges on the individual play that's ordered. It all boils to how many yards are essential for a first. With the first down, it is necessary for a minimal ten yards for the offense. After that point, they have at total of four downs, or plays, in which to achieve another first down. So, if they have lost yardage and have twenty yards for a first down, then you will typically see a pass play.

One reason that this game is popular to watch is the excitement that you feel when you see a play that is executed well. Each team will often try to trick the opposition in many ways including fake plays, feints and other approaches. Many sports fall short of the excitement level that is watched and felt during this game. Players that run with the ball are more likely to sustain injuries on a consistent basis because they are directly trying to go through the opposing players. Much of the tricking comes with how a team is lined up and what the other side thinks will happen. Other plays that are confusing is hiking to the quarterback, who then throws it to the running back, who then throws it down field to a lineman. The fans really enjoy it when they see something that looks completely confusing turn out to be a game changer or the winning touchdown.

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get ready for the football season which is why most of them start early. Even on the high school level, this game has become very serious for many reasons. For many years, there have been some criticism of this aspect because some think it has become too extreme. Though unimaginable a decade ago, steroid use is on the rise with high school athletes that are conditioned to train.
